Iceland’s effusive eruption 29th March 2021
Glossary : Fissure: a long, narrow opening or line of breakage made by cracking or splitting especially in rock or earth.
The main people in the article ‘Iceland Effusive eruption’ written by News Academic are the people of Reykjanes in Iceland.
The key event in this article is a volcano that had been dominant for over 800 year’s had erupted on the 19th of March 2021. Iceland is a country found in the North Atlantic Ocean.
It is classified as being part of Northern Europe. The volcano’s name is Reykjanes. The event took place in the Southern Peninsula Region.
The event is about Reykjanes volcano eruption that took place on 19th of March 2021. In my opinion I think what happened was the volcano woke up and started to shoot lava but luckily Iceland citizen’s are okay.
I think that people should stay away from the lava or they maybe could be a consequence or an unluckily person that falls in.
This event took place in Reykjanes, Iceland. Reykjanes is in Reykjavík which is the capital city of Iceland.

Xavier's Gender Ground Rules Part 2.
The Celebration Of Soul Friends Mass, Saint Patrick's Day and Ash Wednesday.
On the 17th of March 2021 Saint Pius X had a very special mass. This mass was special because we celebrated three important occasions for our school. They are, St Patrick's Day, Soul Friends and Ash Wednesday. As we journey in the fourth week of lent, today we honour St. Patrick who is the patron saint of Irish people and the Holy Faith Sisters who started our school, more than sixty years ago, who were from Ireland. They Brought with them the beautiful idea of Soul Friends.
In the early Irish Church people chose someone wise to be their soul friend. This friend is a person they can talk to and share their experiences in life. It was introduced to us by the Holy Faith Sisters who started St. Pius X School more than 60 years ago. It is a beautiful relationship, where the older students look out for the younger and vice versa.
We had our Ash Wednesday ashes today because lock down has been happening a lot in Auckland, New Zealand.
St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland because he was the chosen one of God.
Here below is a picture of the whole school sharing lunch with their Soul Friend.

Xavier's Pablo Picasso Art-Cubism Drawing 1.
Yesterday, the 9th of March Te Wairua Pakiki 4 (TWP 4) did some art that is based on Pablo Picasso's cubism art. Pablo Picasso is a Spanish Artist, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and stage designer. He was considered one of the greatest and most influential artist of the 20th century.
In cubism you can play around with lots of shapes. The facial features like your eyes, nose, mouth and ears can be different shapes and places. Our teacher said '' Cubism is that it looks as if painting dropped and cracked, and was rearranged when put back together''.
When we looked at the pictures we noticed that the mouth, nose, ears and eyes were in different spaces and it was different colours. After our teacher demonstrated and we saw lots of examples it was our turn to draw.
Step 1. In pencil, draw your head, any shape will work. You can use a mirror or draw from your imagination.
Step 2. Add your facial features, eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Try to use shapes you noticed in your discussion.

International Women's Day.
On the 8th of March 2021 was International Women's Day. In our class we did an activity to challenge the stereotypes and bias of both male and female roles within our society. First had to get into the same gender groups. We then wrote down the positive and challenges of the opposite gender. The boys wrote down about the positive and challenges for female and the girls wrote about the positives and challenges of being male.
After we came up with some ideas in our group we then joined our groups with the opposite gender. Something we noticed was that the two lists were very different. Woman had more challenges. For example: Something challenging about being a girl is that they have to take long to get changed because they have to do makeup and they have to do their hair. On the other hand men had more positives. For Example: Men are brave to beat up robbers and other things.
Something we learnt from this is that it is not fair for woman and men.
Here is our activity we did.
Can you add any more stereotypes to this?

Great Big Hearing Check 2021.
Great Big Hearing Check 2021.
One morning me and my class had a great big hearing
check.
Triton Hearing is a free online app where they check if
your
hearing is alright. They are doing this site for a fundraiser.
It is
also a fundraiser app. Whenever you play the game you
donate
1$ to a National Foundation for Deaf and hard of hearing.
This March, Triton Hearing is allowing them to check
your
hearing for free online and you can also help deaf people
by
donating 1$ whenever you go to the Triton Hearing site.
When I did this check I found it difficult to understand
what
the numbers were. It also told me to go see a doctor
which
confused me. Something that I like about the site is
that you
donate 1$ wherever you go to the site. Have you
ever been
to Triton Hearing before? Today I found this exciting!
