SLJ-Summer Haiku.

On the 23rd of December 2020 I made a video because I was doing the Summer Learning Journey. The activity was about we had to write a sentence that had 5 or 7 syllables that made sense. I decided to screencasitfy my work. Have you ever done this activity before? Can you guess how many syllables are in each sentence in the video? Today I have found this activity interesting!

  1. Mōrena Xavier, this is Elle from the Summer Learning Journey team.

Ka pai on stepping it up and creating some awesome haiku! It was great to hear you read them out loud in your video and you have written some very summery poems.

It is difficult to get all the right syllables in the haiku isn’t it? I find haiku a great challenge, because it encourages you to make an impact and communicate your message in very few words.

Your first poem is my favourite! It has all the right syllables, with 5 in the first and last line, and 7 in the middle! I really like that the poem is about what you see, as it includes a visual element!

What was your favourite part about writing all of your haiku? Have you written poems before? I enjoy writing poetry myself, so it is so much fun to see what you all come up with!

Ngā mihi nui and keep it up!
    Elle (SLJ)
